Alpha Training

At Alpha Training we have the following provision in place for students during lockdown:
Welfare telephone calls are made on the day that the student would usually attend and we ask to speak to the student to ensure that they are okay and if they need any support with completing work.
We have a virtual online learning platform that we use where students can access and complete work and receive any help that they require. Home visits are made every week to drop off work and to collect any completed work. (This is done safely and measures are taken to protect both staff and families whilst following safe social distancing procedures).
Work provided is based on their qualification and can be used as evidence towards their final qualification target grade.

Community Footprints

Remote learning is provided through Microsoft Teams or video calls via WhatsApp. Students receive paper copies  of work sent to them prior to the session and then the tutor would deliver the session alongside the activity explaining and demonstrating different tasks. Work is then collected back in for marking and feedback

Electric Palace

We offer remote learning which involves sending out personalised work for each student, depending on the current ASDAN qualifications, personal development programme or short course that they are studying. This pack will include all of the resources that they will need to complete the tasks, as well as detailed instructions and action plans. For some students, they will access online learning courses, such as that for our Food Hygiene qualification.

All students will receive a phonecall in the morning at the time that they would usually start the day, their work pack and what they need to do will be planned and discussed and staff can arrange times to call throughout the day to check on understanding. For some sessions, such as PSHE a video session via Teams, WhatsApp or Messenger will be arranged, and for students who usually need more support during sessions, video linked sessions are arranged to ensure that they have the support that they need to complete their work.

Elite Training

Here at Elite Training Group we have remained open to our learners throughout the Covid restrictions offering a wide range of accreditations.

Our students have enjoyed the chance to continue to study for vehicle mechanics, construction, animal care, catering and a lot more.

We at Elite are very fortunate that we can keep our study groups below four students so remaining in safe working conditions.

Those students that have been unable to attend due to self-isolation have had bespoke hand study packs tailored to their individual needs with students having the option to have TEAMS online lessons to assist with the work or just a general phone call with their tutor to aid in any questions.

Having continuous access to site provision has proved invaluable for our learners at these testing times and enables them to continue with their normal routine and for parents/carers to know their young people are safe and working hard.

JP Alternative Education

The majority of our online learning is completed via Microsoft Teams. All staff and students have their own email accounts that allow them access to Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint etc.

All the learning materials and worksheets for each qualification are uploaded to the students individual folders, these can only be accessed by the learner and the assigned members of staff, as well as the SLT, for quality assurance. Staff set assignments for the students to complete independently, as well as working with each individual on a 1 to 1 basis. Another member of staff is always present when online sessions are completed as per our COVID-19 Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy Appendix - January 2021.

In addition to the above, students who are completing a functional skills qualification, also have their own accounts for BKSB (Award-winning EdTech. The UK’s No.1 for Functional Skills and GCSE Maths and English). Staff set learning targets for students to complete. In addition to the 1 to 1 online sessions, staff are available between 09:00 and 15:30 on Teams, to answer any questions they may have.

For those completing a qualification in Lessons in Financial Education, this is completed via the online portal accessed via their individual accounts.

For the more practical qualifications, such as Motor Vehicles, Fitness and Physical Education, the students are focusing on the theory side of the qualification via Teams, supported by online videos and 1 to 1 sessions. This will put all students in a good position to focus on the practical aspect of the qualifications once face to face learning for all returns in the hopefully the not too distant future.

Walsall College

Remote learning is generally completed online using Microsoft Teams which is fully inclusive to most students where they are able to access lessons using laptops, tablets and mobile devices. Students have work uploaded onto Teams and also workpacks have been sent out to some groups where appropriate, so that they are able to complete portfolio work during their remote lesson.

Within lessons students have learning mentors also present who are able to keep track of students comments and support students further whilst the tutor is presenting. Staff provide break out activities to ensure that students have a break from the screens and also keeps them engaged during the session.

Students also have some self-directed sessions where they are provided with a piece of work to complete at home without an actual presented session. This does not mean that the student is not supported and the tutor is available on-line to clarify expectations or requirements for the assignments.

I would like to add that students are engaging really well with the remote learning. Those that are not present are called by the tutor using Teams and then our Pastoral Support Officer is also very proactive calling the students and parents to ensure that they get on-line to the lessons.

Walsall Construction
